Chaz Cone - W4GKF
I designed the callsign font for my QSL card (above) back in 1970 when I was in the QSL card business. Some like it, some don't, but EVERYONE has an opinion one way or the other!
At this writing, I've been a ham for 55 years. Here are a few high points:
In 1953, I got my Novice ticket in Little Rock, Arkansas as KN5AZL. My "Elmer" was a neighbor, Dick Freeling W5TIZ who was blind. Dick has since become a SK.
In 1954, I upgraded to General, dropping my "N" to K5AZL.
In 1957, I upgraded to Advanced , went away to college (Georgia Tech) and received a new call: W4GKF. In those days you had to change your call if you changed call areas.
In 1972, I led the KC4DX DXpedition to Navassa Island With any luck it'll be back on the air this year or next (maybe they'll let me go back!).
In 1973, I participated in the PJ9GIW Contest DXpedition to Curacao.
More recently I was the webmaster for the Peter I 3Y0X DXpedtion in 2006 and this year the Desecheo Island K5D DXpedition.
Last year I was happily a part of the winning worldwide MultiMulti contest DXpedition to Costa Rica as TI5ØDX.
And shortly (March 5th) I'll return to Curacao as part of the SEDXC PJ2T contest DXpedition.
