Field Day 2010

Field Day Results

The 2010 Field Day results are now available, and we did exceptionally well again this year. I can't thank enough the members of the Field Day team and everyone in the club who came out and participated. Without all of you, Field Day would just be a couple of us guys sitting in the park operating on a Saturday afternoon, instead of the success we've made this event into. So, here is a quick analysis of how we did.

Attendance: #1 among all Field Day activities again, by about 70 attendees. We had 246 attendees (down about 5% from last year), but far more than the next club/group (175 for N4FR, Williamson Co. ARES, TN).

Score: 9540 total points
59th overall among all Field Day activities (2617 total entries) (top 3%)
9th overall among all Class 3A entries (343 total entries)(top 3%)
6th overall in Southeastern Division (200 total entries)(top 3%)
1st overall among SE Div 3A entries (28 total entries)
1st overall among GA Div 3A entries (10 total entries)

I'm working to see how we compared overall to all entries in Georgia, but the ARRL's database isn't sorting properly at that level for some reason. I sent them an email and hopefully they'll resolve the situation in the next day or two.

The only other thing I have to say is this: Outstanding job NFARL!!!

Now that this year's results are out, I'm starting preparations for Field Day 2011. I will need volunteers to help make next year's event another Field Day to remember. If you 'd like to be a part of our history-making Field Day activities, please contact me off-list at ak4ik at nfarl dot org.

Congratulations again to everyone in the club for an outstanding Field Day.

Ian, AK4IK

Field Day Update

Report presented by Field Day Chairman Ian AK4IK at the July 20 club meeting

Field Day 2010 Preparations

Once again, Field Day is rapidly approaching. Field Day is the ARRL’s annual premier operating event for showcasing amateur radio’s capabilities during an emergency or disaster.   This year the event, which always takes place the last full weekend in June, takes place June 26 and 27.   This year’s theme is “I am a ham – The world is my playground.”  Operating time runs from 2:00 PM EDT Saturday until 2:00 PM EDT Sunday, with setup and tear-down immediately before and after operations.   Please plan to join us and play in our global playground for a few hours.

We’re gearing up for another fun and exciting Field Day.   Last year we set a record (for the club, at least) for the number of attendees, with 256 visitors, and had the most-attended event in the country.   This year we’d like to beat that number.   We also plan to hold another Boy Scout radio merit badge class and have a delicious barbecue dinner Saturday evening.   Oh, and we’ll probably operate some radio during the 24 hours, as well.

The station captains are soliciting for operators.   Please respond to their requests and operate as much as you can.   The station captains for 2010 are:

If you have any questions about their stations or want to volunteer to operate (or help in other ways), please contact them directly.

If you have any general questions, comments, or suggestions about Field Day, please email fieldday@nfarl.org.   If you have specific concerns, questions, or comments that should be brought to my attention, or would like to join the committee (we can always use more help!) please email me directly at ak4ik@nfarl.org.
