Field Day Bulletin #11

Field Day is Just Under 36 Hours Away

June 26, 2008

Field Day is just under 36 hours away.  I have a few last-minute items for everyone.

  1. There are still opportunities to sign up and operate during Field Day.  We still have several operating slots available on GOTA and VHF/UHF.  Also, there are many operating slots only being worked by one person.  We can have more fun, and rack up more points, if at least two people operate each time slot.  One person operates, the other logs. Then everyone switches roles and the logger operates and the operator logs.  We not only have more fun and work more QSOs this way, but club members get to know each other better, too.
  2. Remember to bring your cushions and stadium seats with you if you have them, especially if you'll be operating 40m phone or GOTA.  Those stations will be set up on the metal picnic tables at Waller Park Extension.  For extended operations, you might be a little more comfortable if you have something soft to sit on.
  3. Thank you to everyone who RSVPed for dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday.  We have an amazing 76 people for dinner Saturday and 18 for Sunday's breakfast.  This speaks volumes for member participation throughout the event.
  4. Our visiting elected officials will be coming in two shifts.  Rep. Tom Price and Alpharetta Mayor Arthur Letchas are coming sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 PM Saturday.  Roswell Mayor Jere Wood and Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker are coming at 6:00 PM Saturday. They'll join us for dinner and then operate a little.
  5. Thank you to David Lemcoe, KI4YJL, and Carey Gay, KJ4CJX, for volunteering to act as event photographers.  However, don't forget the First Ever NFARL Field Day Photo Contest. Everyone bring your cameras and take lots of pictures!  We want to make sure we not only get great photos with our elected officials, we want great photos of the entire event so we can post them on our web site, and maybe even submit a few to QST Magazine.
  6. No matter how many volunteers we have for setup and tear down, we never have enough.  Please come help with these activities.  Setup begins at 8:00 AM Saturday.  Tear down starts at 2:01 PM Sunday.   Everyone's help is needed and appreciated.
  7. And, if you're coming to help set up Saturday morning, we're meeting for breakfast at 7:00 AM at the Southern Skillet on Alpharetta Street in Roswell, just around the corner from the Field Day site.

Thanks and 73,

Ian, AK4IK
