Field Day Bulletin #7

Down to the Wire!!!!

June 19, 2008

It's Coming Down to the Wire!!!!

Everyone, we're now nine (9) days out from Field Day! There are only a couple more updates to go, then the time will be here. First, let's take care of the business, then I'll get to the good news!

Food

We need a (reasonably) accurate head count so we know how much food to get for dinner Saturday evening (served around 6:00 PM).   Please RSVP by Wednesday, 25 June, with your name, call sign, and number attending dinner to Lynn, KJ4DYH at kj4dyh@nfarl.org.

If you don't RSVP, you don't eat!!

We want everyone to come, and want everyone to enjoy the barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers, and the company and camaraderie.   However, we've got to know how much food to order and buy.   So please RSVP for dinner by next Wednesday.   Please note, there is no cost to anyone for the food.  Dinner is on the club.

We also could use help with some of the other food items for the weekend.   We're looking for dessert, snacks to get through the night, heat-appropriate beverages (water, Gatorade, etc.).   If you have any questions about what to bring, or want to volunteer to bring something, please contact Lynn at the email address above.

Scheduling

We're doing really well with our scheduling.   However, we still have some slots to fill.   If you are GOTA-eligible, we have plenty of slots open for operators on GOTA.   If you're not GOTA-eligible, we have plenty of slots open for Elmers on the GOTA station.   Please help me fill those time slots.  Check out the schedule at http://www.nfarl.org/fielddayschedule.html.  Also, now that the schedule is filling up, don't think we can't use you!   If a slot only has one other person in it, please volunteer to work that time slot.   Operators need loggers, and loggers need operators. That's how we maximize our performance on Field Day.   Send me an email at ak4ik@nfarl.org to sign up for a time to operate/log.

Greeters

As I mentioned at the meeting Tuesday night, we'll have a table with the sign-in sheet at Field Day.   We need greeters to meet people as they come up.   We're asking for people to work one 30-60 minute shift.   We're looking for people from 2:00 PM until about 7:00 PM Saturday and 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sunday.   Again, please email me to volunteer for this.

Signs

We need signs for each of the operating stations.   Each sign should have the band/frequency range for the band, radio type, antenna being used.   Please contact Steve, KC4YBO at kc4ybo@nfarl.org for more information and to volunteer to make signs.

OK.   That's all the business.   Now let's move on to some of the fun stuff.

Publicity

As I posted earlier in the week, the AJC did a brief write-up about Field Day last Friday.   I spoke to the reporter who did that write-up several times over the course of the week.   There will be another, similar write-up in this Sunday's Northside Extra.   Please be sure to check the paper this Sunday.   Additionally, the AJC will be following up with another article next Friday, 28 June. Once I have the details on that, I'll post them to everyone.

PSA Spotting – We have PSAs running on several radio stations around town (see Field Day Bulletin #3).   As you listen to the radio in the car, at work, around the house, etc., please make a note of some kind if you hear our PSA.   We'd like to know which media outlets ran the PSA so we can send them proper thank-you's from the club.

Served Organizations

Ed Cellino, KC4ZGK, works for the Roswell Fire Department.  He'll have their new Emergency Response vehicle at Field Day from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday.  This is a great opportunity to see what local emergency responders are doing to maintain communications during emergencies.  Thank you, Ed!
